Our continued professional development courses are designed for nurses working in primary care.


This course provides a basic understanding of the anatomy, physiology and functions of a healthy heart. The key audience is nurses working in primary care.

This course provides a basic understanding of coronary artery disease (ischaemic heart disease). It outlines the risk factors, symptoms, treatment and management of the condition.

This course provides a basic understanding of rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease. It outlines the signs, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of the conditions.

This course provides a basic understanding of heart failure. It outlines the causes, symptoms, treatments and management of the condition.

This course provides a basic understanding of some common arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation. It outlines the risk factors, symptoms, treatment and management of these conditions.

This course provides a basic understanding of cardiovascular disease risk assessment (CVDRA) and management in primary care. It outlines who needs CVDRA and when, how to carry out CVDRA, and gives tips on communicating risk assessment results and self-management strategies to patients.

Course information

The Heart Foundation: Primary Care eLearning courses were developed in 2020 by our team of nurses and health professionals.

These courses were last updated in January 2021 and will be reviewed annually to ensure your learning is current and applicable.
