This resource explains the changes made to New Zealand’s recommendations and guidelines regarding advice to prevent infective endocarditis.

Advice on how best to prevent infective endocarditis was updated in 2009. If you had been taking antibiotics for any dental work before the change in guidelines, you might not need to take them anymore. This leaflet will explain the differences, but please discuss any concerns with your dentist or doctor.
